The best openers do two things at once: they prove you read the profile, and they make replying easy. Everything else is noise. Below are ten openers you can adapt — but treat them as patterns, not scripts. The magic is in making them specific to the actual person. The shared-interest opener: 'We both put football in our interests — who are you supporting this season, and how heartbroken are you about it?' Each of these references something concrete and ends with an easy, open question. That combination — specific detail plus open question — is the entire formula.
