A great profile does the heavy lifting before you ever say a word. It tells the right people 'we'd get along' and gives them something to message you about. Most profiles fail not because the person is unappealing, but because the profile is vague. Here's how to make yours clear, warm, specific and credible — and why verification matters more than any single photo.
Photos: clear, varied, and real
Lead with a bright, smiling photo where your face is fully visible — no sunglasses, no hat, no group shot as the first image. Then add variety: one full-length, one doing something you love, one that shows your world. Three to six strong photos beats ten mediocre ones.
Avoid heavy filters. Authenticity wins, and it also sets honest expectations for when you meet. The goal is to look like the best, real version of you on a normal day.
Bio: specific and inviting
Trade clichés for specifics. 'I love travel and good food' could be anyone; 'Ask me about the road trip to Obudu or my ongoing search for the best shawarma in Lagos' is you. Specifics give people hooks — and hooks are what good opening messages are built on.
End with a soft invitation that's easy to answer: a 'this or that', a question, or a playful challenge. You're not writing a CV; you're starting a conversation.
Show, don't list
Instead of listing adjectives ('funny, kind, ambitious'), show them through a detail or a short story. 'I will absolutely cry at a good jollof' shows humour and warmth better than the word 'funny' ever could.
Round out the facts that help people picture a life with you — what you do, what you're looking for, your interests — but let your personality lead.
